 The U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) announced plans on Friday to pursue sanctions against Elon Musk after he failed to appear for a court-ordered testimony. This testimony is a key part of the SEC's investigation into Musk’s $44 billion acquisition of Twitter.

In a filing submitted to the federal court in San Francisco, the SEC indicated it would seek an order requiring Musk to explain why he should not be held in civil contempt. The issue arose when Musk informed the SEC just three hours before his scheduled September 10 testimony that he would not be attending, which the SEC claims violated a previous court order from May 31 compelling his participation.

"The court must make clear that Musk's gamesmanship and delay tactics must cease," Andrews stated, underscoring the need for a firm judicial response to prevent further evasions.

In response, Musk's lawyer, Alex Spiro, dismissed the SEC’s call for sanctions as excessive and unnecessary. Spiro also emphasized that Musk’s testimony had already been rescheduled for October 3, adding that the September 10 situation was an “emergency” outside of Musk’s control. Spiro assured the court that there was no reason to believe such an emergency would occur again.

This court dispute is part of the SEC's broader investigation into whether Musk violated securities laws during his early 2022 acquisition of Twitter stock. The ESRB has given Horizon Zero Dawn Remastered for PS5 and PC a rating.

 Horizon Zero Dawn Remastered: A New Era for the Iconic Action-Adventure Game?

The acclaimed action-adventure game Horizon Zero Dawn may soon be making a comeback in remastered form, according to recent reports. While Sony has yet to officially confirm the news, a recent rating from the Entertainment Software Rating Board (ESRB) suggests that the remaster is closer to reality than ever. This follows years of speculation about the game's revamp, which is said to bring improved visuals and enhanced performance.

The ESRB has given Horizon Zero Dawn Remastered for PS5 and PC a rating.

Horizon Zero Dawn was first released in 2017 for the PlayStation 4 and quickly became a standout title, praised for its expansive open world and rich storytelling. In 2020, a PC port titled Horizon Zero Dawn Complete Edition was launched, broadening the game's audience. Launched in India, the Samsung Galaxy F05 has a 50-megapixel camera and a MediaTek Helio G85 SoC.

 On Tuesday, Samsung officially unveiled the Galaxy F05 in India. This new smartphone is equipped with an octa-core MediaTek Helio G85 processor and comes with 4GB of RAM. It features a substantial 5,000mAh battery that supports 25W fast wired charging. The device boasts a large 6.7-inch HD+ display and is fitted with a dual rear camera setup that includes a 50-megapixel main sensor and a secondary 2-megapixel depth sensor. For selfies, there is an 8-megapixel front-facing camera housed in a waterdrop notch. The Galaxy F05 will be available later this month in a single RAM and storage configuration, and it seems to be a rebranded version of either the Samsung Galaxy M05 or the Samsung Galaxy A05.

Launched in India, the Samsung Galaxy F05 has a 50-megapixel camera and a MediaTek Helio G85 SoC.

It runs on Android 14 with Samsung’s One UI 5, and Samsung has promised two OS upgrades and four years of security updates.

For photography, the Galaxy F05 comes with a 50-megapixel primary camera and a 2-megapixel depth sensor on the rear, while the front-facing 8-megapixel camera is designed for selfies. iOS 18 brings a range of exciting customization features, allowing users to modify app icon tints and colors, rearrange apps on the home screen, and personalize widgets. However, one of the most anticipated features—Apple Intelligence—powered by generative AI, will not be available immediately. This revamped AI-powered Siri and other intelligence features are expected to roll out in a future update. The new AI capabilities will be available on all iPhone 16 models, but among older models, only the iPhone 15 Pro series will support these advanced features.

As for the iOS 18 release, it will begin globally on September 16. Although Apple has not provided an exact time, past releases have typically occurred at 10 a.m. PT (10:30 p.m. IST).

The iOS 18 update is compatible with a range of iPhone models. Devices supported include the second and third-generation iPhone SE, as well as the iPhone XR and all models released after that. Here is a complete list of iPhones that will support iOS 18:

Users will now be able to freely rearrange apps and widgets, resize them, and even lock or hide sensitive apps. Additionally, users can apply different color tints to app icons or match them to their wallpapers, creating a more personalized look.

The Control Center has also been revamped, offering more functionality. Users can access a wider range of controls with a single swipe and even rearrange them as they wish. 

Apple has also improved the Photos app, making it easier to organize and find images and videos. Meanwhile, the Messages app is getting new features, including the ability to add animated effects to messages, even to individual emojis. Additionally, iOS 18 introduces support for Rich Communication Services (RCS) messaging, and users will be able to schedule messages to be sent at a later time.

Currently in development, the Apple Watch SE with a plastic body is anticipated to launch in 2025.

 At Apple's recent iPhone 16 launch event, they unveiled the Watch Series 10 models and a fresh new color option for the Watch Ultra 2, which now also comes with a sleek titanium Milanese loop band. However, one thing noticeably absent from the stage was any news about the Apple Watch SE, the more budget-friendly model, which hasn’t seen an update since 2022.

But the wait might soon be over. Reports indicate that Apple is working on a completely reimagined version of the Watch SE, set to debut with a bold new plastic body. This fresh take on the SE is expected to be even more affordable than the current 2022 model, and could hit the market as early as next year.

Currently in development, the Apple Watch SE with a plastic body is anticipated to launch in 2025.

Bloomberg's Mark Gurman has offered some intriguing details in his latest PowerOn newsletter. While the existence of a plastic-bodied Watch SE was known from earlier reports, Gurman now reveals more about why Apple is taking this route. The big idea? Appeal to a younger crowd, offering an Apple Watch that’s not only affordable but fun, with vibrant colors that harken back to the iPhone 5c—Apple’s famously colorful and budget-friendly phone from 2013.

It’s not yet clear if Apple will offer a metal version of this new Watch SE alongside the plastic one, but Gurman is certain about one thing: these bold colors are designed to catch the eye, and the watch could be a game-changer, especially for kids. With many U.S. schools enforcing smartphone bans during school hours, a colorful, affordable Apple Watch with cellular capabilities might just be the perfect solution for students to stay connected without breaking the rules.

Though still in development, the plastic Watch SE is making steady progress, and a launch next year seems likely. Apple has faced some challenges in maintaining quality while transitioning to plastic, but once their premium models fully switch to titanium, the SE’s development should speed up.

On the performance front, Gurman hints at a “processor jump” for the new SE. While it’s unclear what chip Apple will use, it’s expected to outshine the current SE, which runs on the same dual-core Apple S8 chip found in the Watch Series 8. EU Is Supposed to Be Unlikely to Issue Google a Break-Up Order Right Now

 EU regulators are gearing up to take a hard look at Google's advertising empire, but it seems they’re pulling back from a once-radical idea: breaking it up. According to sources close to the matter, while Alphabet’s Google may face steep penalties for its anti-competitive practices in the adtech sector, the feared breakup of the company’s powerful ad business is off the table for now.

The European Commission, led by antitrust chief Margrethe Vestager, had previously floated the idea of splitting Google’s ad operations as a way to rein in its dominance. Such a move would have been unprecedented—marking the toughest action ever taken against the tech giant. Vestager had accused Google of tipping the scales in favor of its own advertising platforms, giving it an unfair edge since 2014.

Google’s dominance in the digital advertising world is staggering. In 2023, its ad revenue hit $237.85 billion, making up a whopping 77% of the company’s total income. From search and YouTube ads to services like Gmail and Google Maps, the company has become the backbone of the digital ad industry. Vestager had previously suggested that Google might have to divest key components of its ad ecosystem, such as its sell-side tool DFP and its ad exchange AdX, due to conflicts of interest. Google also controls ad-buying tools like Google Ads and DV360, which are used to place bids on ad exchanges—creating a situation where the company can unfairly favor its own products.

Meanwhile, Google faces an additional antitrust battle in the U.S., where the Department of Justice has accused the company of trying to monopolize the ad tech market, specifically by dominating both the publisher ad server and advertiser network spaces.

Rendition's Story: A Trailblazer in 3D Graphics

 Today's PC gamers are in a fortunate position when it comes to selecting a graphics card, at least compared to the past. Although there are only three major manufacturers producing GPUs, every model they release is capable of running any modern game, albeit with varying levels of performance. This situation stands in stark contrast to the early days of PC gaming, more than thirty years ago, when the graphics card landscape was far more fragmented. Back then, there were over ten companies, each offering its own unique approach to rendering graphics. Some companies found success, while others struggled to make a mark.

One of the most interesting players in this field was Rendition, a pioneering company in the 3D gaming industry. Rendition made a splash with its first product, but followed it with two less impressive models, ultimately fading into obscurity in just five years. However brief their journey, the story of Rendition is a fascinating one, and it’s a tale worth exploring.

A Rocky Start to the Decade

In the early 1990s, PC gaming was a mix of excitement and frustration. Setting up hardware often involved hours of tinkering with BIOS settings and drivers, only to end up with games that were notoriously finicky. But as PCs became more popular, millions of people started buying machines from brands like Compaq, Dell, Gateway, and Packard Bell.

For a budget graphics card from 1991, 8-bit color was standard.

However, these computers weren't exactly designed with gaming in mind. Spending around $3,000 would get you a top-tier system with an Intel 486DX2 processor running at 66 MHz, 4MB of RAM, and a 240MB hard drive. But the graphics card was often an afterthought. If you were fortunate, you might have an ATI Graphics Ultra Pro 2D accelerator with 1MB of VRAM and a Mach 32 graphics chip. If luck wasn't on your side, you'd end up with a cheaper option from SiS or Trident.

At the time, even the best PC graphics paled in comparison to the visuals offered by consoles like the Sega Mega Drive/Genesis or the Super Nintendo Entertainment System (SNES). PC games, such as popular point-and-click adventures like *Myst*, didn't require high-powered graphics cards. These titles were perfectly happy with 8- or 16-bit color support, leaving PC hardware underutilized in terms of graphical performance.

The Shift Toward 3D Graphics

Despite the limitations, change was on the horizon. Arcade machines had already embraced 3D graphics, using specialized hardware to achieve impressive visuals. On PCs, games like *Doom* were starting to use the CPU for rendering 3D graphics, with the system's graphics card simply handling display tasks. However, to truly replicate the graphics seen in arcade games like *Ridge Racer*, home PCs would need dedicated hardware for 3D rendering.

This need created an opportunity for new companies to enter the market, as established graphics companies like ATI and S3 were slow to adapt. Among the new entrants was Rendition, founded in 1993 by Jay Eisenlohr and Mike Boich. Their goal was ambitious: they aimed to create a chipset that could handle both 2D and 3D graphics acceleration and market it to both the gaming and professional industries.

Rendition’s First Success

In 1995, Rendition unveiled its first product, the Vérité V1000-E. Unlike today’s relatively uniform GPU architectures, the early 3D accelerators were highly varied. Rendition took a unique approach by designing the central chip as a RISC CPU that acted as a front-end to the pixel pipeline. Running at 25 MHz, it could perform a single INT32 multiplication in one clock cycle. However, standard rendering tasks like texture filtering and depth testing required multiple cycles, reducing its performance in practical scenarios.

Despite some limitations, the Vérité V1000 had several key advantages. It handled triangle setup routines in hardware, which took a significant load off the CPU, freeing it up for other tasks. The card also used the relatively new PCI bus, which allowed for features like bus mastering and direct memory access (DMA), giving it a performance edge.

Perhaps most impressively, the Vérité V1000 was the first consumer-grade GPU that was fully programmable. This flexibility allowed the development of hardware abstraction layers (HALs) that supported a variety of APIs, making it one of the most widely supported graphics cards by software at the time.

A Key Partnership with *Quake*

Rendition's Vérité V1000 gained further prominence through a collaboration with id Software, the developers of *Doom* and *Quake*. Released in 1996, *Quake* was the first fully 3D game from id Software, and they soon developed an optimized version called *VQuake* to take advantage of the Vérité's 3D capabilities. While the standard version of *Quake* ran at about 30 frames per second (fps) on an Intel Pentium 166, *VQuake* pushed that number to over 40 fps, with improved texture filtering and anti-aliasing, giving gamers a smoother, more immersive experience.

The Fall of Rendition

Despite the initial success of the V1000, Rendition’s follow-up products failed to live up to expectations. Competitors like 3Dfx, with its Voodoo Graphics chipset, outperformed Rendition's offerings. The Voodoo Graphics card was faster, more reliable, and offered superior support for industry-standard APIs like OpenGL, which became crucial for game developers.

Rendition released the Vérité V2100 and V2200 in 1997, but these models struggled to keep pace with the rapidly advancing competition. Performance improvements were modest, and the cards still lacked some features that were becoming standard in rival products. Ultimately, in 1998, Rendition was acquired by Micron Technology, and despite attempts to launch new products, the company was unable to regain its former glory.

Following the arrest of Telegram CEO Pavel Durov in France, the messaging platform made a notable change to its FAQ page regarding the company's stance on illegal content and chat privacy. Previously, the FAQ addressed the question, "There’s illegal content on Telegram. How do I take it down?" with a response stating, “All Telegram chats and group chats are private amongst their participants. We do not process any requests related to them.” This indicated that the platform did not engage in handling content within private chats.

This is a significant jump from the 600,000 users reported in April, signaling growing adoption of its AI-powered tools by enterprises. 

In addition to the rise in paid users, reports from *The Information* have suggested that OpenAI may soon increase its subscription prices for upcoming large language models, such as the rumored AI tools "Strawberry" and "Orion." Currently, the ChatGPT Plus subscription costs $20 per month for consumers and $30 per month for enterprise users. However, the price could increase to $60 per user per month for enterprise clients, with a minimum of 150 users and a required 12-month contract. OpenAI is also reportedly in discussions with tech giants Apple and Nvidia as it seeks to raise additional funding, with a potential valuation of $100 billion on the horizon.

Nvidia and Microsoft Face Patent Lawsuit

Tech giants Nvidia and Microsoft are facing a lawsuit in the U.S. filed by a small Texas-based company, Xockets. The lawsuit, which was filed in Waco, Texas, federal court, alleges that Nvidia and Microsoft engaged in "rampant" patent infringement, claiming they stole Xockets’ data processor technology to help accelerate the development of AI products. In addition to patent infringement, Xockets also accused the companies of violating antitrust law by conspiring with each other and patent risk management company RPX to manipulate and lower the price of Xockets' technology.

Robert Cote, a board member at Xockets, stated, “Nvidia and Microsoft are abusing their dominance and market power in AI in an attempt to pay little or nothing for the innovations of others that are used in their products.” The lawsuit highlights the ongoing competition and legal tensions within the AI industry, where Microsoft has heavily invested in its partnership with OpenAI, and Nvidia’s equipment plays a crucial role in AI data centers.
